日本では、とかくショッキング・ブルーの影に隠れて、あまり有名ではなかったゴールデン・イアリング。本国オランダでは泣く子も黙る、超スーパースター的存在だった。 　１９６５年にデヴューしたゴールデン・イアリングは、その時代の空気をそのまま音楽性に反映して行った。一言でいってしまえば、ロック史のカタログを地で行ったＲ＆Ｂバンドということになるのだろうか。 　それは、リバプール・サウンド風（マージー・ビート）から始まり、ブルーアイド・ソウル〜サイケデリック〜グラム〜ニュー・ウェーヴという風にだ。 　中でも一番有名な曲「レーダー・ラヴ」は、本国でナンバー・ワンを獲得するだけに留まらず、グラム・ロック華やかりし１９７４年の英国チャートのトップ１０（米国でもトップ２０）に入る世界的な大ヒット曲となった。 　とにかく、どの曲をとっても曲のできが良い。キャッチでポップでカッコいい。特に、シングル曲を追いかけていくと、７０年の「バック・ホーム」、７１年の「ホーリ・ホーリ・ライフ」、「シー・フィールズ・オン・ストレンジ・ウィングス」、７２年の「バディ・ジョー」、「スタンド・バイ・ミー」等の一連の曲は、「当時のストーンズの新曲か？」と僕に思わせたほどカッコ良いです！ 　ちょっと余談になるけど、そのレーダー・ラヴが入っているアルバム「ムーンターン」のジャケットで、一悶着あった。そのヌード写真のヘアーが問題となり、アメリカではジャケットが差し替えられてしまったのだ。そう、ゴールデン・イアリング（＝耳飾）そのものをあしらった,、しょうもないジャケットとなってしまった。今では考えられないエピソードである。
